2014 - AN OVERVIEW BY THE FP&M SETA CEO

2014 was an exceptional year for the FP&M SETA. In the words of one of our stakeholders:
"An unimaginable triumph in 2010 became a reality in 2014."

Not only did we achieve our first unqualified audit (since our establishment in 2011), but we recorded an 80% achievement of performance against predetermined targets, increased our discretionary grant expenditure with 133% in comparison to the previous year, registered more than 8,500 learners on learning programmes and graduated more than 4,300 learners.

FP&M SETA READY TO OPTIMISE PERFORMANCE IN 2015

Ms Felleng Yende, Chief Executive Officer of the FP&M SETA, has implemented an effective new business model at the FP&M SETA which is focused on customer oriented service delivery, increased productivity and performance excellence at all levels of the FP&M SETA operations. In order to effectively bring about this achievement, significant changes were made to the FP&M SETA's organisational structure at management level in order to maximise the capacity of the FP&M SETA's human resources.

NDIMASE TRADING CONTINUES THEIR GOOD WORK ACROSS SOUTH AFRICA

On 17 November 2014 the Honourable Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana and the CEO of the FP&M SETA, Ms. Felleng Yende, attended a graduation ceremony in Randfontein, Gauteng, hosted by Ndimase Trading. The purpose of the event was to hand over certificates to a cohort of 468 learners with disabilities who successfully completed learnerships and skills programmes in various disciplines under tuition of Ndimase Trading, an FP&M SETA accredited provider.

The Annual Vukani! Fashion Awards, South Africa's premier platform for the empowerment of emerging designers, celebrated its 20th year in Johannesburg from 14 - 18 October 2014. The 2014 event was sponsored by the Fibre Processing & Manufacturing (FP&M) SETA.

SUCCESSFUL SEWING LEARNERSHIP LEADS TO EMPLOYMENT AT TOYOTA

The Department of Social Development, in partnership with Ubucubu Home Industries, an FP&M SETA accredited training provider, successfully implemented a learnership programme for 15 unemployed youth at the Illovo Development Centre on the KZN South Coast.

THE STUDIO 05 11th ANNUAL FASHION SHOW

This 11th Studio 05 fashion show was brought to life on Saturday 29th November 2014 at the VSP Lounge in Sandton. Guests included fashion industry expects, media as well as friends and family of the students (first year students and third year graduates) of Studio 05 who each showcased between 2 - 6 designs.

ARANDA LEARNERSHIP COLLEGE PROVIDES BUILDING BLOCKS FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Aranda Learnership College (ALC), situated in Randfontein has implemented several skills development interventions for people with disabilities. The interventions include learnerships and skills programmes in Clothing Manufacturing Processes at NQF Level 1.

FP&M SETA AND CAPE MENTAL HEALTH PARTNERSHIP REAPS EXCELLENT RESULTS

Training Workshops Unlimited (TWU), a Cape Mental Health project, provides life- and work skills training, learnerships, poverty alleviation, job-coaching, job creation and employment opportunities for over 550 persons with intellectual disability from 44 poorly-resourced communities in the Cape Town Metro area. Many of these individuals have never had access to formal schooling and TWU's objective is to provide appropriate skills and employment training to empower them to achieve their fullest potential.

WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES EXCEL IN GARMENT MAKING LEARNERSHIP

Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) is a non-profit advocacy organization committed to empowerment and development for persons with disabilities. Their vision is "A South Africa Accessible to All" and their mission is "to be effective and efficient democratic national assembly of all disabled people, which mobilises us to advocate for our rights, for the attainment of equal opportunity in an intergrated social, political and economic enviroment".

STELLENBOSCH UNIVERSITY PAY IT FORWARD AT KWANOTHEMBA WORKSHOP

The Kwanothemba Woodwork-shop in Khayelitsha is an NPO that was established in 1998 in order to give people with disabilities the opportunity to support themselves. Although the workshop has successfully supported a number of people over the years, it has much more potential. In March 2014 after receiving funding from the FP&M SETA, upgrades and repairs were performed to get the woodwork-shop in a safe and operational state.

The National Institute for the Deaf (NID) is an NGO in the town of Worcester in the Breede Valley Municipal area and has been attending to the needs of deaf people from all over the country since 1999.

SHELTERED EMPLOYMENT FACTORIES (SEF) PROVIDES SAFE HAVEN

Sheltered Employment Factories (SEF) operates under the auspice of Department of Labour and employs vulnerable people who cannot as a result of their ailments obtain gainful employment in the open labour market.
